Box Score The duo pairing of
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and
Molly Jespersen claimed the A Flight Doubles while
Ariane Karera defeated her sister Yvette in the B Flight Singles Final to highlight the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team on the final day of the Mary Hosking Invitational in Geneva, N.Y.
"I'm proud of how everyone competed this weekend," said assistant coach Noah Murphy "The team played some high-quality tennis and I'm excited to see how we'll grow from here."
In Flight A Doubles, it was all Scarlet and Brown in the final after the duo pairings of Aksdal-Jansen/Jespersen, and the Karera sisters each won their Semifinal matchups. The sophomores Aksdal-Jansen and Jespersen got the better of their first-year teammates by winning the flight with an 8-3 win.
In Flight B Singles, it became a Karera versus Karera finals when
Yvette Karera defeated Lauren Kallas in the Semifinals 8-4, and her sister Ariane took her matchup 8-1 over Ava Cassell. In the final, Ariane got the better of her sister in a tight 8-7 (7-5) finish to claim the flight.
In the C Flight consolation bracket,
Elena Styliades advanced to the Final after defeating Lauren Rodriguez 8-5. The senior went on to win the consolation bracket with an 8-5 victory over Stephanie Kim.
In Flight A Singles, Aksdal-Jansen successfully advanced to the flight finals with an 8-5 win over Taylor Crain. In the Final against Josephine Libby, the sophomore dropped a hard-fought match 8-4.
In Flight B Doubles,
Alexandra Fuller and
Ellie Fritz fell in the Semifinal round with an 8-4 loss to Lauren Rodriguez, and Kendall Curley.
In the D Flight,
Maya Stepic's run ended in the Semifinals when the sophomore fell 8-3 to Sabrina Cheung, who went on to win the flight.
The Scarlet and Brown will be back in action on September 16-17 at the Sammis Tennis Courts when the team hosts the St. Lawrence Invitational.
