The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team combined for 15 wins between singles and saw at least one member of the team advance to the semifinals in each of the flights except for one as the Scarlet and Brown opened their season hosting the SLU Fall Classic at the Sammis Tennis Courts and the Newell Fieldhouse on Saturday.
In the B flight singles,
Adam Heilbronner advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-2 win over Ian Schunk of Union, then took down Troy Steiner of Hobart 8-6 to advance to the B flight semifinals. Heilbronner went on to lose his doubles matchup, in the A flight doubles, but him and his partner
Broderick Pinto advanced to the A flight doubles consolation semifinals with an 8-6 win.
Pinto was able to advance all the way to the C flight singles semifinals following two wins on the day. In the first round, Pinto defeated Ethan Martin of RIT 8-2 before beating Brain Wang 8-7 (7-4) in the quarterfinals.
Cole Hamilton joined his teammate in his singles flight as he advanced to the D flight singles semifinals. Hamilton took down RIT's Connor White 8-6 in the first round, then defeated Austin Gregory of Ithaca 8-7 (7-4) to advance. Hamilton, alongside Aidan Baraco also won his doubles matchup 8-3 in the first round of the B flight doubles before falling in the quarterfinals.
In the A flight doubles,
Nathan Turtledove and
Ben Moolman advanced to the semifinals after defeating Ben Jacobs and Aidan O'Brien 8-6 in the first round, then beat Kai Yuminaga and Kavin Shukla 8-7 (7-2) in the quarterfinals. In the B flight,
Edvin Strandberg and
John Hill-Edgar also reached the semifinals after posting an 8-7 (7-5) win in the first rouond, then an 8-4 win in the quarterfinals.
In consolation action,
John Hill-Edgar reached the semifinals of the C flight consolation after earning an 8-3 win over Max Chang, while Heilbronner and Pinto made the semifinals of the B flight doubles consolation.
The Scarlet and Brown will wrap up the SLU Fall Classic tomorrow from the Sammis Tennis Courts and the Newell Field House. Â Â
