On this past Thursday night, the St. Lawrence Super Smash Bros. team defeated the University of New Hampshire Wildcats in their first ever appearance in the National Association for Collegiate Esports (NACE) 1-0.
In the NACE League, Smash teams compete in a best of one four-person crew battle. This past week, the Saints only needed two of their four players to defeat the Wildcats. Alex "Legmer" Holland, playing as Joker, went against the Wildcats as the Saint's first leg. He singlehandedly took eight of the team's collective twelve stocks. The Wildcats began with a Greninja who was able to take two of Legmer's three stocks, but with just one stock remaining, Legmer not only defeated Greninja, but he also beat the Mii Swordfighter that followed, and he took two stocks from the Wildcat's third leg, playing as Lucario.
With Lucario down to just one stock, Andrew "andy" Cichetti came in for the Saints playing Pyra/Mythra. He took his opponent's last stock without losing one of his own. He then faced the Wildcat's anchor, playing as Ness. Andy knew the match up well and cleanly defeated Ness losing only one stock in the process. With Ness's defeat, the Saints secured their first ever NACE victory in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
