Sophomore
Adam Heilbronner won the "B" Flight singles back draw to pace the St. Lawrence men's tennis team on Sunday at the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic.
"It was great to be back hosting the SLU Fall Classic for the first time since 2019." said head coach
Neil Caniga "It is a great way to start our fall competition and gain valuable experience. I thought we did a fantastic job competing throughout the weekend and we were able to make a lot of strides. I look forward to the Union Invitational next weekend as it will provide strong competition for our players."Â
Heilbronner advanced to the finals by default, and ended up taking on teammate
Cole Hamilton in the final round. Hamilton made it to the final after taking down Austin Gregory of Union 8-3 in the semifinal round. Heilbronner and Hamilton fought to a 8-6 finish with Heilbronner taking the win.
In the "C" flight singles,
Broderick Pinto fell in the semifinals 8-4 to Nick Grosso of Hobart, while
Edvin Strandberg advanced to the final with a win over Hyat Oyer of Hobart. Strandberg was unable to avenge his teammate as he fell to Grosso 8-2 in the final.
The duo of
Shepard Handy Shutkin and
Kenden Aguilera advanced to the semifinals of the "B" doubles back draw yesterday, but lost to Bailey McAtee and Thomas McGuire of Union today 8-4.
