Game Recap: Softball |

Best, Ferguson hit HRs, but Saints Drop Pair to Skidmore

Lauryn Best and Cora Ferguson hit home runs, but the St. Lawrence University softball team's bats were otherwise silenced by Skidmore pitchers Lindsey Raimondi and Meghan Robertson on Tuesday afternoon, as the Thoroughbreds swept the Saints by 4-2 and 6-1 scores on Tuesday afternoon in Saratoga Springs.

Best hit a two-run home run — her first of the season — in the sixth inning of the first game to break up a no-hitter, and Ferguson smashed a solo shot in the seventh inning of the second game for her first career round-tripper.

The Saints fell to 5-14 overall and 5-11 in Liberty League play, while Skidmore moved to 4-6 both overall and in conference play.

Game 1: Skidmore 4, St. Lawrence 2

Skidmore scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings to build a 4-0 lead, and Lindsey Raimondi took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Best belted a two-run home run over the fence in left center to cut the Thoroughbreds' lead to two. The Saints brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning but Raimondi was able to close out the game to give Skidmore the win.

Gabby Slater allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in three innings, while Macey Davis allowed one run on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts in three innings.

Raimondi struck out nine and allowed one hit and one walk in the complete game victory.

Kaitlyn Judd went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to lead Skidmore at the plate.

Game 2: Skidmore 6, St. Lawrence 1

Skidmore scored all six of its runs in the second inning and the Saints were unable to solve Robertson until Ferguson's pinch hit home run over the left field wall in the seventh inning.

Robertson allowed just three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in the complete game victory. Megan White led the Thoroughbreds at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double.

Slater and Tori Rotundo had hits to go along with Ferguson's home run to lead the Saints.

Macey Davis pitched well in relief for St. Lawrence, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and one strikeout over the final five and two-thirds.
