Game Recap: Softball |

Saints Swept by Ithaca

The St. Lawrence University softball team ran into two hot pitchers on Saturday, falling to Ithaca College in a pair of Liberty League contests, 3-0 and 11-0 at Saints Softball Field.

Beth Fleming and Riley Piromalli both shut down the Saints bats with one-hitters for the Bombers, who entered the game ranked second in the Northeast Region.

St. Lawrence fell to 5-16 overall and 5-13 in the Liberty League, while Ithaca improved to 19-5, 15-3. The two teams will meet again in Ithaca on Sunday to wrap up the weekend series.

Game 1: Ithaca 3, St. Lawrence 0

Lauryn Best broke up the no-hitter with the Saints down to their final out with a single up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Julia Loffredo hit an RBI single in the first inning, and Haley Gaffney added a two-run triple in the third to account for the scoring in a pitcher's duel in the opener.

Macey Davis was the tough-luck loser for the Saints, allowing three runs on three hits with five walks and fourth strikeouts.

Fleming had 11 strikeouts with three walks for the Bombers.

Game 2: Ithaca 11, St. Lawrence 0 (5 innings)

The Bombers scored six runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to break open a game that was close through the first three innings to invoke the eight-run rule in the second game.

Piromalli allowed just two base runners and was 3-for-4 with four RBI at the plate to lead Ithaca.

Gabby Slater had the lone hit for the Saints, reaching on a single in the first inning.
