Silvia Scores Five, Saints Earn No. 4 Seed in Liberty League Tournament

Junior Isabel Silvia tallied a career-best eight points with five goals and three assists to lead the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team to a 21-16 win over Skidmore in the Liberty League regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon in Saratoga Springs, New York.

With today's win and a Vassar loss, the Saints earned the fourth seed in the upcoming Liberty League tournament and will travel to  the No. 1 seed Ithaca in the semifinals on Wednesday, April 28 at 4 p.m.

Rachel Burke scored four goals and added three assists, while Charlotte Powell also netted four goals and added one assist. Kylie Murphy and Morgan Arakelian each scored three, while Liddy DeConto and Laura Wells also got in on the scoring action for the Saints. Jacqui Cloutier won seven draw controls, while Abigail Eberle and Saints' goalkeeper Raelynn Bovenzi both picked up four ground balls.

Much like yesterday's matchup the Saints took an early 5-2 lead over the Thoroughbred within the first 10 minutes of play and the Saints worked to increase their lead to 13-8 by halftime.

Wells tallied the first goal of the second half to put St. Lawrence up 14-9, but four goals from Skidmore and another from the Saints kept the Thoroughbreds within just two with 16:29 to play.

The Saints then went on a five-goal run to take a 20-13 lead and help seal the win and the berth in the conference semifinals.

"Never count the Saints out," said head coach Hannah Corkery '11. "We have proven we are a team that can come back and leave an impression. We fought to the very end and are excited to be headedinto playoffs. Everyone has worked immensely hard to get to this point and we could not be here without everyone's contribution."

Madelyn Marr, Amelia Bassett, Gabriella Modesti and Avery Geddes all recorded three goals for the Thoroughbreds.

Bovenzi finished with nine saves for the Saints, while Phoebe Beshlian made 11 saves for Skidmore before being relieved by Cate Spaulding, who finished with three.

St. Lawrence held a 35-25 advantage in shots on goal and a 20-12 edge in ground balls.

The Saints improved to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while Skidmore fell to 2-4 and 0-4.
