The St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team returned to the Liberty League semifinals for the first time since 2017, but the fourth-seeded Saints fell to top-seeded and nationally-ranked Ithaca by a score of 20-8 on Wednesday afternoon in Ithaca, New York.
Isabel Silvia led the Saints with four goals, while
Kylie Murphy scored twice.
Rachel Burke finished with a goal and two assists, while
Charlotte Powell tallied one of each.
Jacqui Cloutier led the Saints with six draw control wins, while
Annie Wilson picked up two ground balls.
Ithaca's Megan Motkowski put the Bombers on the board with back-to-back goals within the first two minutes of play and a four-goal run increased their lead to 6-1 with 21:41 to play in the half.
The Saints tallied five goals in the first frame, but the Bombers increased their lead to 10-5 by halftime.
Ithaca added another 10 goals in the second half, sealing the win and the right to host the Liberty League Championship game.
"We are obviously very disappointed by the turn out of the game," said head coach
Hannah Corkery '11. "However we are proud of the steps we took to get here. Ithaca has been our best competitor thus far. We will learn from this moment and continue to be a playoff team. We appreciate everyone's support and commitment this season. Thank you to our friends, family, and administrators that have been cheering us on."
Jacqui Hallack and Alex Rabb scored five goals apiece to lead the Bombers' attack, while Motkowski finished with a hat trick and an assist. Hallack also won 10 draw controls and picked up four ground balls and Rachel Rosenberg caused four turnovers.
Saints' goalkeeper
Courtney Lynn made 13 saves, while Mackenzie Schade recorded the win for the Bombers with one save.
The Saints entered today's contest ranked second in Division III with a 71.4 free-position percentage, in which Powell capitalized on one of St. Lawrence's opportunities this afternoon.
St. Lawrence closed the 2021 season with a 4-4 overall record, while the Bombers will host the championship game against William Smith on Saturday.
