Meredith Rose was 4-for-7 with a triple, a double and three RBI to lead the St. Lawrence University softball team to a split with RIT in a Liberty League doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in Rochester.
After falling to the Tigers 6-3 in the opener, the Saints rebounded with a 10-4 win in the second game.
Gabby Slater was 3-for-6 at the plate, while Zora Braswell and
Tori Rotundo were both 3-for-7 for the Saints.
St. Lawrence moved to 3-12 overall and 3-9 in Liberty League play, while RIT moved to 5-14, 2-11.
Game 1: RIT 6, St. Lawrence 3
RIT jumped out to a 4-0 lead with one run in the second inning and three more in the third. Rotundo hit an RBI single in the fourth to cut the lead to three runs, but the Tigers came right back with another run in the bottom of the inning to lead 5-1.
Meredith Rose and
Gabby Slater added RBI singles in the fifth inning to trim the lead to 5-3, but the Saints were unable to get any closer.
Slater was 2-for-3 to lead the Saints at the plate, while Brianna Bilich was 2-for-3 for RIT, and Julia Vaillancourt, Natalie Barrera and Raquel Estrada were all 2-for-4.
Torie Adler picked up the win for the Tigers, allowing three runs on six hits in five innings. Melissa Gould earned the save, pitching two perfect innings to close out the game.
Slater took the loss for the Saints, allowing one earned run in two innings, while
McKailey Lyndaker threw four innings in relief, allowing two runs.
Game 2: St. Lawrence 10, RIT 4
After giving up runs on RBI doubles by Barrera and Bilich in the first and second innings, respectively, the Saints responded with 10 unanswered runs to earn the split.
Rotundo tied the game with a two-run single in the fourth, and
Carolyn Holran added two more with a double to right center in the frame.
The Saints added four more runs in the fifth inning. Rose plated the first with an RBI single, and
Skylar Hein scored on a wild pitch to make the score 6-2. Braswell and Holran added RBI singles to give the St. Lawrence a six-run lead.
Rose added an RBI double and Rotundo a RBI single in the sixth to account for the Saints' final two runs.
Rose was 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Holran was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Rotundo was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Hein also had multiple hits, going 2-for-4.
Vaillancourt led the Tigers at the plate, going 3-for-4.
Jacee Casebolt earned the win for the Saints, allowing just one earned run on four hits in five innings of work.
