Young '20 Joins Saints Softball Staff

Caroline Young '20, a two-year captain of the St. Lawrence University softball team, has returned to campus as a graduate assistant coach.

Young finished her career as the Saints' record holder for fewest walks per 7 innings pitched, allowing just 1.18.

She ranks in the top-10 in St. Lawrence softball history in six career pitching categories, despite missing her entire senior season due to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to her record for walks per 7 innings, she made 48 appearances (seventh), started 30 games (eighth), won 18 games (eighth), pitched 178 innings (10th) and had two shutouts (tied for 10th).

Over her sophomore and junior seasons, Young won 17 games and struck out 65 batters with just 22 walks in 170.1 innings pitched.

"It is really exciting Caroline is able to continue being in the program in a new capacity," said Saints' head coach Elisa VanKirk. "In a time of so much uncertainty, she already knows the team and what we value in the program. She's going to really be able to connect with prospective student-athletes in a unique way as an alumna and a former player on the team. We are both very excited for the 2021 season."
