Student-Athletes Volunteer at Local Elementary School Fundraiser

Athletes Lend a Hand at Banford Elementary Annual Bingo Night

On March 8 St. Lawrence Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) members and their team mates volunteered at Banford Elementary School for their annual Bingo Night.  Each year, Saints student-athletes help out by serving dinner, assisting with the bingo event, and handing out prizes. First Year women's track & field team member, Isabel Caprood '22, enjoyed being able to get to know the community better while wearing the scarlet and brown. "All of the kids were so excited to be there, and it felt great to be able to help out the community and spread SLU spirit!"

Each year Banford Elementary School hosts this event to fundraise for the upcoming year.  As the event continued to grow in attendance, more hands were needed to help it run smoothly.  Connecting with the St. Lawrence Student-Athlete Advisory Committee was a seamless partnership.  "Our student-athletes are regularly looking for opportunities to give back to the community they go to college in -- especially if that opportunity involves working with young children" said Carly Stine '15, Co-Advisor of SAAC.  "I think student-athletes value the chance to get-to-know and give back to the community that so generously supports them all year round; most notably from the fan section at competitions."

In reflecting on her experience at the event, Saints softball player Angelina Carney '20 spoke for all of SAAC when she said: "We are looking forward to helping out again next year!"
