On April 30^th the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted a Youth Sports Event to honor National Girls and Women in Sport Day.   The event welcomed children from the greater Canton community to interact with St. Lawrence Student-Athlete's while engaging in athletic drills from many of the different athletic programs offered at St. Lawrence.  There were over 11 different stations set up for kids to try. "The participation from both the community and student-athletes had increased compared to years past". Said SAAC Co-Advisor Haley Preston," It certainly had a positive impact on the event for both the youth here to engage with the athletes and for the athletes who were able to teach skills and give back to the community."
 
Many of the participants were provided the opportunity to interact with current St. Lawrence student-athletes.  For example, the Women's Crew Team showcased their state of the art rowing tanks, the Nordic Skiing Team showed the roller skis they utilize, and the Swimming and Diving team held a fun relay race.
 
"As a kid, I participated in events just like this, so it was neat to attend Youth Sports Day from a different perspective" said, National Girls and Women in Sport Day Chair, Ali Price '19.  "Hosting events like this is important because it shows kids what all is possible and gives them something to work for. It gives them a mentor, someone to look up to and follow. Being around this young group was energizing and refreshing. It was cool to see the smiles and excitement within the kids grew as they made their way around Leithead."
 
This event also marks the end of the year for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, however all are excited to return to campus in the fall and further grow SAAC's relationship with the St. Lawrence community.
