Brett Bartolone and James Kent have joined the St. Lawrence University football coaching staff for the 2017 season.
Bartolone, who will be working with the Saints' quarterbacks, previously served as the offensive coordinator for The Flash Football Club, a European amateur team in the spring, and coached the wide receivers at Whittier College last fall. At Whittier, he assisted in coordinating the passing game, planned individual drills, assisted with the offensive practice script and helped break down film and assisted with recruiting.
Bartolone was an Honorable Mention College Football News Freshman All-America selection and Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 at Washington State University in 2012. He had 53 receptions for 435 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie before suffering a career-ending injury as a sophomore. He spent his final two seasons with the Cougars as a student-assistant coach, working with the inside receivers and providing the offensive coaching staff with halftime analysis of defensive coverages.Â
Kent, who will be working with the Saints' offensive line, spent the last two years as an offensive line coach and the recruiting coordinator at Hiram College. In 2016, he helped the Terriers' offense set school records for total yards and passing yards in a season, and his offensive line helped Danny Robinson become the first First-Team All-NCAC running back in program history with 683 rushing yards on 128 attempts, an average of 5.3 yards per carry.
A 2014 graduate of Mount Union, Kent helped the Raiders win the NCAA Division III Championship with a perfect 15-0 record in 2012. He played 11 games on the offensive line that season, then earned 14 starts in a 14-1 season as a senior, helping Mount Union advance to the NCAA championship game once again. After graduation, he spent two years at his alma mater as the junior varsity offensive line coach, leading the JV squad to a 15-0 record. He was also an assistant offensive line coach for the varsity team, helping the Raiders go 29-1 over two years with a national championship in 2015 and a runner-up finish in 2014.
"Brett and James add a great deal of coaching experience to our staff, and both know what it takes to play football at a very high level," said head coach
Dan Puckhaber. "They will be tremendous additions to our staff and will help our offense maximize its opportunities this fall."
Bartolone and Kent will begin their duties on August 1.
