Dean Sponholz and
Kevin Frommer won their matches in singles play, but the St. Lawrence men's tennis team fell 7-2 to Salisbury University in their first match in California on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
With the loss, the Saints drop to .500 at 2-2, while Salisbury improves to 9-0 on the season.
After Salisbury swept doubles, Sponholz won his match at No. 1 over Colt Williamson 6-1, 6-3 and Frommer posted a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 over Grant Hudson.
The Seagulls won at No. 2 and at Nos. 4-6 to seal the match.
Marco Amendola battled back from a first set loss at No. 4 Patrick MacLean to win the second 7-6 (7-5), but was outlasted in the third 6-1.
The Saints will continue their spring break trip against the College of Wooster on Monday afternoon.
