Emily Wade scored two goals and assisted on a third, while
Katie Stames recorded a goal and an assist of her own, as the St. Lawrence women's soccer team defeated SUNY Plattsburgh 3-1 on Sandy MacAllaster Field on Tuesday afternoon.
"I was extremely pleased with how hard we came out, especially coming off of a weekend which included two overtimes," head coach
Franco Bari said. "Out attack was very balanced, we created great opportunities and the goals were very well earned. Our midfield worked extremely hard on both sides of the ball."
The Saints put pressure on the Cardinals early and often, outshooting the visitors 21-5 through the first 45 minutes, with a number of shots narrowly missing wide or over the crossbar.
In the 16
th minute, Wade set up Stames with a low cross from the right side which Stames volleyed past Plattsburgh goalkeeper Taylor Adams to put the Saints in front 1-0.
Just over seven minutes later,
Hannah Merriam carried the ball deep into the offensive third before her attempted cross was blocked by a Cardinals defender, setting up a corner kick for St. Lawrence. Merriam's service was headed down at the far side of the box before being knocked around by a number of players twelve yards from goal.
A clear attempt by Plattsburgh's Brooke Knight hit Saints' defender
Samantha Taillon and ricocheted off Knight again before Wade collected on the edge of the six-yard box and put a low shot under the outstretched arms of Adams for a 2-0 Saints lead.
Early in the second half, Wade extended the lead with her second of the day to make it 3-0 St. Lawrence.
Kaleigh White threw the ball in to Stames, who then deked a pair of defenders to create space at the corner of the box before passing the ball off to Wade. Wade one-timed a shot just under the crossbar for her fourth of the year and the final Saints goal of the afternoon.

It is the first multi-goal game of Wade's career, as the Rochester, N.Y. native now leads the Saints in scoring with four goals and three assists.
Plattsburgh's leading scorer Anissa Hartmann spoiled goalkeeper
Jackie Sovie's shutout bid in the 70
th minute with a hard shot from the top of the box that was just beyond the reach of Sovie as she dove towards the far post.
Sovie finished with four saves for St. Lawrence to improve to 3-0-1 on the year, while Adams also made four saves in the loss.
St. Lawrence finished with a 29-9 edge in total shots, while also holding a slight 7-5 lead in shots on goal. They also had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
"Impressive day, to say the least," Bari added. "Now were turn our focus to our first conference matchup."
With the win, the Saints remain unbeaten at 5-0-2 heading into Liberty League play this weekend, while the Cardinals drop to 4-3-0.
The Saints travel to nine-time defending Liberty League Champion William Smith for a 3 p.m. matchup on Saturday afternoon. St. Lawrence was the only conference team to score a goal against the Herons in the 2015 season with
Kaleigh White's tally in the Liberty League Championship.
