Men’s Lacrosse Storms Past Bard in the Second Half

Jamie DeNicola scored five goals including four in the second half leading the St. Lawrence University Men's Lacrosse team, ranked #8 in the USILA/Nike National Poll, to a 14-6 victory over Bard College Saturday afternoon at Bard Stadium in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.

The teams played a close first half with the scored tied at 3-3 after the first 30 minutes of action. DeNicola, Cal Hynson and Jamie Kuppel each scored goals for the Saints (10-1 overall, 2-1 Liberty League) in the first half.

In the third quarter, Bard (4-6, 0-3) took a 4-3 lead with a man-up goal two minutes into the period.

DeNicola and the Saints answered with a pair of goals in just 15 seconds to take the lead for good at 5-4 with 10:52 left in the third quarter.

Alec Dietsch scored for the Saints at the 8:12 mark and Brett McCormack added a goal at 5:47 pushing the St. Lawrence lead to 7-4.

Jon Fairbanks scored with 1:44 left on the clock for the quarter and DeNicola notched goal number four on the day 11 seconds later as the Saints took a 9-4 lead into the fourth quarter.

Hynson scored his second goal of the day to start the final quarter before Jeremy Vautour scored a minute later. DeNicola scored goal number five just more than a minute later and sophomore Billy Cooper scored his first career goal 54 seconds later as the Saints took a commanding 13-4 lead.

Bard stopped the streak of goals with a man-down marker at 6:21 but Vautour answered just more than 30 seconds later with a man-up goal for the Saints.

Bard capped the scoring with a goal at the 3:30 mark of the fourth quarter.

DeNicola led the Saints with his five points while Vautour added four points on two goals and two assists and Hynson finished with three points with two goals and an assist. Dietch and Malcolm Lynch led the Saints with four ground balls each and McCormack had two of the eight St. Lawrence caused turnovers.

Ryan Fisher and Patrick Sullivan combined to make seven saves with Fisher earning his 10th win of the season.

The Saints will face Clarkson at 7 pm Wednesday in Potsdam as the team continues Liberty League play.
