Saints Draw Clarkson in Season Finale

The St. Lawrence and Clarkson women's soccer teams traded goals in the first 11 minutes of Saturday afternoon's Liberty League finale in Potsdam and played to a 1-1 draw in double overtime.

Hannah Merriam scored in the 8th minute after a through ball to the left side of the box from Katie Stames to give St. Lawrence a 1-0 lead. But Clarkson answered with a goal from Giulia Mahoney in the 11th minute to even the score.

"Our first goal was well-earned and we came out with a strong level of intensity," head coach Franco Bari said. "After the goal Clarkson showed they still had fight and while we
created really quality opportunities they just didn't fall."

The Saints finished with a 17-9 edge in overall shots and an 8-4 advantage in shots on target. They also took 10 corner kicks, while conceding just four.

Junior Jackie Sovie finished with three saves in the tie, while Elyse Green made seven stops for the Golden Knights.

With the tie, the Saints finished the season with 11 points in fifth-place in the conference standings, just out of playoff position.

"Overall, I'm really proud of this team," Bari added. "There was a lot of fight in us both in the second half and the overtimes. Today, the team left all they had on the field until the very end."
