Oct. 31: Two first-period goals and an empty-net tally in the third helped the St. Lawrence women's hockey team earn both its first conference win and first shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory over Yale in New Haven.

"Monster two points tonight on Halloween at Yale," Head Coach Chris Wells said. "This was an important game for us and our effort was just what we needed. It was a big step for our team to bounce back from our last game and get this result."

The Saints held a slight edge in shots in the contest, 35-28, but Yale kept the pressure on throughout. Goaltending from senior Carmen MacDonald and impenetrable team defensive helped the Saints keep the Bulldogs off the board.

"Yale had a number of creative and dangerous players that had some great chances," Well said, "Carmen made some big saves and we had some hard-working defensive efforts."

First-year Kennedy Marchment gave St. Lawrence the lead with the eventual game winner midway through the first period on a feed from Brooke Webster. The goal is the third of the year for the rookie.

Megan Armstrong extended the lead to 2-0 seven minutes later with her first goal in a St. Lawrence uniform and the sixth of her career. The junior played two seasons with the University of New Hampshire before transferring to join the Saints this season. She was assisted by Amanda Boulier and Jenna Marks.

Marks also assisted on Kailee Heidersbach's empty-net goal at the 17:13 mark in the third period that pushed the margin to 3-0. With a pair of assists on Friday night, Marks took over the team lead in points with eight.

With the win, St. Lawrence improves to 4-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 against ECAC Hockey opponents. They will look to complete their weekend road sweep with a game at Brown in Providence Saturday afternoon. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
