Nov. 1: Five third-period goals help the Brown women's hockey team to a 7-4 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon in Providence. The teams entered the final frame tied at 2-2, and despite the Saints taking the lead four minutes in, the Bears scored four times in a span of less than 10 minutes and also added an empty-net goal.
"Brown was able to convert on some timely chances and we were not able to get enough behind Evin," Head Coach
Chris Wells said. "We had plenty of opportunities to win the game, but Brown was resilient with their play and deserved the result."
With the loss, the Saints split their opening road weekend in the ECAC and are now 1-2-0 against conference opponents (4-4-1 overall).
Brown opened the scoring 4:17 into the first period on a goal by Janice Yang, but first year
Kennedy Marchment would pull the Saints even with her fourth of the season midway through the opening frame with assists going to
Dominique Korakianitis and
Jacqueline Wand.
A little over 20 minutes later with the team's still tied at one midway through the second, junior
Megan Armstrong scored her second of the season and the weekend off a feed from
Ellie Williams to give the Saints a 2-1 lead.
Brown answered at the 16:44 mark on a Brittany Moorehead tally to even things at two goals a piece heading into the third period.
Kayla Raniwsky pushed the Saints in front 3-2 with a goal in the opening minutes of the final session off a feed from
Kailee Heidersbach, but the Bears went on to score four in a row, including one on the power play, to push the game out of reach for the Scarlet and Brown.
With Brown leading 6-3 and the Saints in the penalty box, junior
Sydney Bell, who is a regular on the penalty kill thanks to her speed and aggressive forecheck, scored her first of the season and second of her career to mark the team's only short-handed tally so far this season.
Brooke Wolejko made her second start in goal for St. Lawrence on Saturday, recording 14 saves before she was relieved by senior netminder
Carmen MacDonald midway through the third period.
The Saints will travel to Rochester next Saturday for a neutral site, non-league matchup with ECAC Hockey opponent Dartmouth at 5 p.m.
