Oldland and Fritz Lead Women's Tennis on Day One of the Union Invitational

The Saints saw two players advance to the semifinals in their singles bracket, and a pair of doubles tandems move on to lead the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team on Day One of the Union Invitational on Saturday in Schenectady, N.Y.

In singles play, the Scarlet and Brown saw two advance to the semis, both of which were in the D bracket.

Sarah Oldland took on SUNY New Paltz's Elloise Larosiliere in the Round of 16, winning 8-0, then defeated Union's Caroline Fitzsimmons 8-1 in the quarters to advance to tomorrow's semifinal round against Ithaca's Alyssa Trokie.

Joining her in tomorrow's semis is Ellie Fritz, who opened up her Round of 16 with an 8-4 win over SUNY New Paltz's Eva DeJesus, before beating Union's Scarlet Carrara in the quarterfinals. Fritz will take on New Paltz's Olivia Kunz tomorrow in the semifinals.

In doubles play, Ariane Karera and Yvette Karera teamed up against Ithaca's Ava Casell and Alys Pop in the quarterfinals of the A draw and won 8-6 to advance to tomorrow's semifinals. The sisters will take on RPI's Anushka Kaiswal and Kayla Wheeler with a trip to the Final on the line.

In B Doubles, Oldland and Fritz teamed up and earned a Round of 16 bye and took on New Paltz's Trokie and Larosiliere in the quarters, winning 8-3. The two will take on Ithaca's Zuri Freeman and Madeleine Sutro in tomorrow's semis.

Elsewhere on the day, Elisa Iuri earned an opening 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 10-4 win in the quarterfinals of the A draw, but fell into the consolation bracket where she will take part in tomorrow's 3-4 playoff match. A. Karera also went to the consolation bracket in the A draw and, with an 8-7 (7-2) win over New Paltz's Patrycja Filonik, advanced to the consolation bracket final against Ithaca's Pop.

In B singles, Y. Karera and Addison Jones also fell to the consolation bracket, but each earned a win to set up a consolation final between the two tomorrow.

In the C draw, Callie Perrin earned her first collegiate win, taking down Union's Violet Tran 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals, but fell in the 3-4 playoff of the consolation bracket with a loss in the semis and will take on Ithaca's Casell.

In A doubles, Jones and Iuri lost their opening matchup in the quarterfinal round and are now set to take on New Paltz's Filonik and Alexandra Krol in the semifinals of the consolation bracket.

The Saints will wrap up the Union Invitational tomorrow on the campus of Union College in Schenectady.
