The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team returns to the court this weekend as it heads to the Capital District for the Union College Invitational on September 5-6.
Last season, St. Lawrence battled to a 14-5 overall record and went 6-2 in Liberty League play en route to the third seed in the conference playoffs.
The team earned a 4-0 win over William Smith College in the Opening Round of the tournament and was tasked with RPI in the Semifinal Round. A tightly contested match came down to the wire at 3-3 and came down to a three-hour singles match, which the Engineers took to end the Saints' run.
The Scarlet and Brown will be led by a quartet of seniors and a trio of juniors and first-years in 2026-27.
Elisa Iuri returns with the most singles wins on the team after posting a 16-8 mark last season and is followed by
Ariane Karera, who had a 15-5 record, and
Yvette Karera, who went 10-4.
Iuri and
Ariane Karera also return the most wins as a doubles pairing after going 10-5 during the 2025-26 campaign.
Yvette Karera and
Eleanor McDermed were not far behind with a 7-4 record as a team.
Along with the Karera sisters, the Class of 2027 is rounded out by the veteran leadership of
Sarah Oldland and
Ellie Fritz. The junior class consists of Iuri, McDermed, and
Kate Butler.
St. Lawrence welcomes three new players into the fold this season in first-years
Lauren Goldberg,
Addison Jones, and
Callie Perrin, who will look to make an early impact in their collegiate careers.
Following the Union College Invitational, the team will take part in the Mary Hosking Invitational on September 12-13, then will begin prepping for the ITA Northeast Regionals on the campus of Skidmore College beginning October 1.
