Charlotte Lehr tallied the Saints' lone goal, but Lebanon Valley scored late to edge the St. Lawrence University field hockey team 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the William Smith Tournament in Geneva, N.Y.
Lebanon Valley took the early lead with a goal midway through the second quarter, as Claire Weidenhammer made it 1-0 on an unassisted tally at 22:16 for the 1-0 lead.
Lehr scored her second goal of the season and evened the playing field early in the third quarter, knotting the game 1-1. Lehr also led the Saints with three shots on goal.
A late Dutchwomen goal off a corner from Lauren Foster sealed the 2-1 final for Lebanon Valley at 54:40.
"We played a much better second half, and we're happy that we're outshooting and putting on pressure for an offensive push," said head coach
Fran Grembowicz. "Defensively we did a nice job on their top scorer and our passing game looked good. The fight was good today, and we held up good against a quality team, we just need to put our offense and defense together for a full 60 minutes. Looking forward to putting that together for another tough game tomorrow."
Goalkeeper
Stella Gizzi made one save for SLU, while Ella Weidenhammer made six for Lebanon Valley.
St. Lawrence outshot Lebanon Valley 12-9, while the Dutchwomen finished with a 5-3 edge in penalty corners.
The Saints fell to 3-1 on the season, while Lebanon Valley improved to 3-0.
SLU faces a quick turnaround, as they play Ohio Wesleyan at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow for their second game of the William Smith Tournament.
