Box Score The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team improved to 13-4 overall and 6-2 in the Liberty League on Saturday afternoon, pulling out a hard-fought 4-3 road victory over Union at the Union Tennis Courts.
The win gives St. Lawrence third place in the conference standings, putting them in a first-round tournament match against sixth-seeded William Smith. That tournament is set to begin Saturday, May 2 at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
Union took control early, winning the doubles point 2-1. St. Lawrence got on the board thanks to
Yvette Karera and
Eleanor McDermed, who won at No. 3 doubles, 6-2 over Sydney Alphabet and Jenny Park.
The Saints flipped the script in singles play, winning four of six matches to claim the victory.
Yvette Karera was dominant at No. 3 singles, dispatching Claire Langille 6-2, 6-2.
Ariane Karera was equally impressive at No. 4 singles, rolling past Sydney Alphabet 6-4, 6-0.
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen added a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2 over Skylar Semon.
The pivotal match came at No. 2 singles, where
Elisa Iuri outlasted Chara Meidani in a grueling three-setter, 7-6 (8), 3-6, 6-4, to put St. Lawrence up 4-1 and clinch the victory.
With the win, the Saints continued their strong league campaign with two conference matches remaining.
