Reimund Drives the Offense; Baseball Beats Norwich 10-8

Sophomore Eddie Morrissey led the team with two RBI, and First-Year Riley Reimund went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs as the St. Lawrence University baseball team built an early lead and held off multiple Norwich rallies to earn a 10-8 victory Wednesday afternoon at Sabine Field.

St. Lawrence improved to 13-14 with the win, while Norwich fell to 10-22.

Both teams were held scoreless in the opening inning as Shota Kubota worked around a leadoff walk and stranded two runners in the bottom half.

The Saints struck in the second inning. Ethan Harris opened the attack with a one-out double to right field, and after a strikeout, Jack Growney reached on an error to bring Harris home with the game's first run. Reis Stamaris and Mike Siano were each hit by a pitch to keep the inning alive, and Growney scored on a wild pitch. Eddie Morrissey followed with a two‑run single through the left side, giving St. Lawrence a 4-0 lead before Norwich could escape the inning.

Norwich responded with two runs in the bottom of the second, using a leadoff walk, singles, and a two‑run double to cut the deficit to 4-2.

St. Lawrence was held scoreless in the third after Gabe Albertson reached on an error but was left stranded. Norwich closed the gap further in the bottom half, taking advantage of a leadoff double, a passed ball, and a sacrifice bunt to make it a 4-3 game.

Norwich took its first lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Two runners reached to begin the inning, and a double and a sacrifice fly put the hosts in front 5-4.

The Saints answered in the fifth. John Gannon doubled to center field to start the inning, and Reimund followed with a single and a stolen base to put two runners in scoring position. Harris drove in the first run on a groundout, and Eoin Morrissey followed with an RBI single to make it 6-6.

Norwich took the lead again in the bottom of the fifth, using a single and two wild pitches to move a runner to third before an error allowed the run to score.

The Saints delivered the decisive inning in the seventh. Reimund led off with a double and moved into scoring position as the bases loaded on a walk and a hit‑by‑pitch. A wild pitch brought Reimund home, and after another walk, George Proffitt was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Another wild pitch allowed an additional run to score, and a sacrifice fly capped the four‑run frame to give the Saints a 10-7 advantage.

Neither team scored in the eighth inning, though St. Lawrence threatened with a double before being cut down at third to end the rally.

Norwich added one run in the bottom of the ninth on a pair of hits, but Michael Flyzik closed out the contest to seal the win and a save.

Kubota threw two innings in the start and was relieved by James Morr and JJ Humenay, who pitched two innings apiece. Ryan McCausland took the seventh inning, and Flyzik had three strikeouts in the save.

St. Lawrence will head back to Canton and begin to prepare for the Route 11 Rivalry over the weekend. The Saints will head to Potsdam for a Friday matchup against Clarkson at 3 p.m., then will host a doubleheader at Tom Fay Field against the Knights on Saturday, starting at noon.
