Baker Sets Second 200-Meter Program Record on Saturday at AARTFCs

The St. Lawrence University women's track and field team closed out the AARTFC Championships at The Armory on Saturday in New York City, headlined by a historic sprint performance and a series of standout individual and relay efforts throughout the day.

Ella Baker added her fourth program record of the season on Saturday, setting the standard in the 200-meter dash and bettering the mark she had established at Ocean Breeze earlier this year with a time of 25.36. Her mark is the 85th fastest time in D-III. She has now possessed a pair of records in the 60 meters and now two more in the 200, finishing ninth against one of the meet's deepest fields in the process.

"We had a great day two to wrap up the AARTFC Championships," said Saints head coach Kate Howard. "All our team members competed with grit and determination. We are so proud of their efforts and overall results. Ella was once again outstanding, we thought she had more in the tank for the 200-meter run after the Liberty League Championships last week so it was great to see her lower her time and record once again. We're looking ahead to the outdoor season with lots of excitement."

Elsewhere, Madison Beaudoin competed well in the mile, recording an eighth-place finish and podium for the Saints. Running just 24 hours after anchoring the distance medley relay, she turned in the second-fastest mile of her season, crossing the line in 5:06.69.

Ava Machado, Isla Bougard Duncan, Addison Ash and Baker combined for the program's most impressive 4x200 clocking of the season, finishing with a time of 1:47.67.

Blanchard delivered her best outing of the year in the 3,000-meter run, placing sixth in her section with a 10:26.92 while setting a new personal standard for the season. The performance came on the heels of Friday's DMR, a testament to her fitness and versatility; she placed 20th overall.

Ash wrapped up a grueling championship weekend with another strong showing in the 400-meter run, taking the second-quickest time of her season in the event. Between the DMR, the 400 and the 4x200, Ash logged a ton of track time over the regional meet to wrap up her first-year campaign.

St. Lawrence now readies to take their talents outdoors for their Saints Ice Breaker on Saturday, April 4 at the Merrick-Pinkard Track & Field Complex as they begin their outdoor season as hosts.
