The seniors went a perfect 5-0 on the day, as the St. Lawrence University men's squash team defeated Bates 8-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Robie Squash Center and Dordelman Championship Court.
St. Lawrence improved to 7-10 on the year with the win, while Bates fell to 4-11.
Before the match, the squash programs celebrated the graduating Class of 2026 for Senior Day in
Harrison Callaway,
Gavin Cassidy,
Alexander Scott,
Patrick Walford, and
Athrva Yadav.
Among the senior class, Walford, Scott, Callaway, Yadav, and Cassidy all authored wins at their respective spots in the ladder to lead the team to victory.
Walford, who played against Parker Davis Jr. at four, won his match 17-15, 11-3, 11-3, while Callaway took on Tanish Tangri and won 11-9, 11-6, 12-10. Yadav had the third sweep of the group, winning 11-4, 11-6, 11-6 against John Kim at seven, while Cassidy had the fourth sweep of the class in an 11-4, 11-7, 11-6 victory against Augustus Silverman.
Alexander Scott had the closest match of the five as he faced Tommy Le at five. The senior took a 2-0 lead with 11-8 and 11-9 wins, before his opponent forced a fourth game with an 11-9 win. The senior stormed back with a 12-10 win to take the match.
Elsewhere in the match,
Miguel Posada Villa and
Emirhan Sen both lost their opening games in the second and third spot, but were both able to win their next three to take the wins. At nine, Dimitry Stepanenko took on William Veague and swept the match 11-8, 11-4, 11-3.
In the final match of the day,
Mina Wasseem and Dennis Welte lined up at number one, and the visitor secured a 3-2 win to make it an 8-1 final.
St. Lawrence will be back in action next weekend when the team heads to Philadelphia, Pa. to take part in the CSA Team Nationals, the final event on their 2025-26 schedule.
