The St. Lawrence University men's track and field team utilized a series of standout individual performances to secure a third-place finish at the SLU Open on Friday.
The Saints' afternoon was highlighted by three individual event victories, beginning in the high jump where Landon Powers cleared 1.90 meters to take the top spot on the podium. On the track, Colin Ruddy delivered a dominant performance in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 51.61 seconds to secure a first-place finish for the hosts.
The middle-distance crew provided a significant points boost for St. Lawrence, led by a powerful 1-2 punch in the 800-meter run. Patrick Russell took the event title with a winning time of 1:56.87, followed closely by teammate Cyrus Goetze, who earned silver with a time of 1:58.38. The Saints also saw success in the mile run, where Aidan Fay battled to a third-place finish with a time of 4:46.76
In the sprint and hurdle events, the Saints continued to find the podium against a competitive field. Erik Marelli notched a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, posting 8.53 in the final.
Caleb Young added to the team total in the 200-meter dash, sprinting to a third-place finish with a time of 22.97. These high-impact finishes allowed the Saints to remain in the hunt throughout the meet, providing a solid foundation as the team prepares for the upcoming championship season.
St. Lawrence is now set for the Liberty League championsips next weekend.
