Women's Squash Sweeps William Smith and Bard to Earn LL Championship Bid

The Saints picked up a pair of wins on the day, beating William Smith and Bard to advance to the Liberty League Championship match on day one of the Liberty League Tournament on Saturday at the Robie Squash Center and the Dordelman Championship Court.

The Scarlet and Brown, who improved to 10-4 on the season, will take on Denison tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. for the title.

Match 1: St. Lawrence 9, William Smith 0

In the first match of the day, the Saints won all nine matches and lost just one game in total.

The number one spot produced the biggest thriller with Angel Otshabeng and Kada Smith-Padmore playing on the Dordelman Championship Court. After dropping the first game 11-8, Otshabeng sent the glass court fans into a frenzy with 11-9, 12-10, and 11-9 wins to take the match.

At two, Mariam Dodd defeated Jessica Finnerty 11-7, 11-3, 11-8 on the glass court, while Madeleine Martin closed off the Championship Court matches with an 11-6, 11-4, 11-3 win against Tamia Rollaing.

Laura Franz occupied the fourth spot against Scarlett Sandoval and won 11-2, 11-3, 11-1, while Khissaiyia Spencer won in the fifth spot, beating Kimberly Javier 11-1, 11-3, 11-1. In the sixth spot, Katherine Callaway lined up against Danie DeZart and secured a solid 11-3, 11-3, 11-0 win.

At the bottom of the ladder, Ksenia Merkulova and Ashley Ambrosio played at seven with Merkulova taking the 11-2, 11-1, 11-2 win. At eight, Emma Kahle won her match 11-2, 11-1, 11-1 against Sadie Sanchez, while Kamya C. Franklin played Amalia Clemente at nine and won 11-1, 11-1, 11-5.

Match 2: St. Lawrence 9, Bard 0

St. Lawrence orchestrated another 9-0 sweep in their second match of the day to secure their spot in the title match on Sunday.

In the one spot, Eboni Atherley played her first match of the day against Tarana Downer and won handily 11-1, 11-0, 11-4. At two, Martin took on Catherine Chapel and won her match 11-4, 11-3, 11-4, while the three spot was occupied by Franz, who won her match against Hanna Okalava 11-2, 11-2, 11-4.

At four, Spencer lined up against Nioby Rodriguez and won 11-1, 11-5, 11-1 at four, while at five, Merkulova defeated Teresa Kyaw 11-3, 11-1, 11-1. In the sixth spot, Kahle took on Snow Queen and secured an 11-1. 11-2, 11-3.

At seven, Franklin was tasked with Catalyna Contreras-Araya and took an 11-3, 11-4, 11-3 win, while Azaa Regmi played Najla Nazari at eight and won 11-6, 11-1, 11-4. In the ninth spot, Lilly Ritchie closed things off with an 11-5, 12-10, 11-5 win over Noa Baede.

The Scarlet and Brown will line up against Denison tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. to decide the Liberty League Championship.
