Stella Gizzi made nine saves, but the Union Garnet Chargers topped the St. Lawrence University field hockey team 3-1 in Liberty League action on Sunday afternoon in Schenectady, N.Y.
Caroline Ranucci put the Garnet Chargers on the scoreboard early, scoring with a long shot from the arc off a penalty corner, just 1:15 into the first quarter.
Union's second goal looked a lot like the first, off a corner and off the stick of Ranucci, giving the Chargers a 2-0 lead before the break.
Bailey tallied her fifth goal of the season to put the Scarlet and Brown on the board in the third quarter.
Hannah Sweatt battled a swarm of Union defenders, got the ball through traffic and to Bailey on the goal line for the tally.
Union's Rowan Dapson scored with 1:46 to play for the 3-1 final.
Gizzi finished with nine saves for SLU, while Ellie Skolnekovich made four saves for Union.
The Garnet Chargers led in shots (23-7), shots on goal (13-6), and penalty corners (22-4).
St. Lawrence fell to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play, while Union improved to 7-3 and 2-1.
