St. Lawrence University senior Nicholas Lyndaker has been named the Athlete of the Week following a historic performance on the track. This recognition comes on the heels of a dominant indoor season where the Canton, N.Y. native continues to solidify his standing as one of the premier distance runners in the country.
Lyndaker earned the honor after a record-breaking performance at the Utica Winter Opener, where he surpassed a 42-year-old school record in the 1,000-meter run. By posting a time of 2:26.72, he eclipsed the previous mark set by Dave Elster in 1984. With this latest achievement, Lyndaker officially becomes the most decorated record-holder in Saints men's indoor track and field history, now holding program records in the 1,000m, 1,500m, 3,000m, and the mile.
The Saints will look to carry this momentum back to their home facility as they prepare for their next competition. The team is scheduled to host the St. Lawrence Invitational at the Newell Field House, with events taking place on January 23-24.
