The Saints collected seven 3-0 sweeps and a pair of 3-2 thrillers on the Dordelman Championship Court as the St. Lawrence University women's squash team defeated Franklin & Marshall 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Robie Squash Center.
St. Lawrence improved to 6-1 with the win, while the Diplomats fell to 2-8.
Angel Otshabeng orchestrated the first sweep of the day, defeating Ashanti Amastal 11-7, 11-4, 12-10 in the number one spot, then
Mariam Dodd picked up the win at four, beating Noelle Bardorf 12-10, 11-9, 11-5. Â
At five,
Laura Franz took on Joey Ho and secured an 11-9, 11-4, 11-6 win, then at six
Khissaiyia Spencer beat Lavanya Mio Seshasayee 11-5, 11-7, 11-8.
Katherine Callaway,
Ksenia Merkulova, and
Emma Kahle occupied the seventh through ninth spots, respectively, and all came away with sweeps for the Saints.
On the glass court,
Eboni Atherley took on Rory Dasher at number two and after winning the first game 11-3, lost the next two to go down 2-1. The first-year stormed back with 11-8 and 11-3 wins to earn the comeback 3-2 win.
In the final match of the day,
Madeleine Martin was in the number three spot against Mia Todd and also played on the Championship Court. Martin went down 2-0 early with 11-2 and 11-4 losses, but improbably took the next three games 11-7, 11-4, and 11-6 to send the Dordelman Court crowd into a frenzy and secure the 9-0 sweep.
Next up on the Saints' schedule are the CSA Individual Nationals next weekend in New York, N.Y., followed by a road matchup against Colby on Friday, January 30.
