Box Score Molly Jespersen took the flight championship in the A draw for singles and teamed up with
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen to take the A draw in doubles, as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team wrapped up their season-opening Union Invitational on Sunday.
Jespersen entered the day with two victories in the A draw on the opening day of the tournament, sending her to the flight final. She took on Samantha Ostrander of New Paltz and earned the victory 6-3, 7-5.
Ariane Karera also took a singles flight victory, winning the B draw for the second consecutive season at Union. She took on Madeline Sutro of Ithaca, winning handily 6-3, 6-2 for the victory.
In the D draw, St. Lawrence's
Sarah Oldland rode a round-of-16 bye and a Saturday quarterfinal win into the Sunday semi-final, falling 8-3 in that morning contest.
Kate Butler took her St. Lawrence teammate
Alexandra Fuller in the west stage D draw final, with Fuller winning 8-5 to take the victory.
Maya Stepic took a win in the consolation side of the C draw, beating Union's Claire Langille 8-7 (7-1).
In doubles, Jespersen picked up her second A draw win of the afternoon. She teamed up with Aksdal-Jansen to take an 8-3 win over New Paltz's Olivia Kunz and Patrycja Filonik in the semifinal, before cruising to a second 8-3 decision in the final against Ostrander and Justine Stanejko of New Paltz.
Oldand and
Elisa Iuri rolled through the B draw semifinal in doubles, downing Ava Casell and Martina Nicora of Ithaca 8-5. They then took the draw win with an 8-5 victory over Calista Finkelstein and Megan McCusker of Union later in the afternoon.
McCusker and Finkelstein had dispatched the Saints' team of Butler and
Abigail Sicuranza earlier in that draw's semifinal, 8-4.
Karera teamed up with
Eleanor McDermed in doubles as well, taking on Langille and Skylar Semon of Union, falling to the hosts 8-5. They also took part in an afternoon contest in the south stage of the A draw, with Ithaca's Sutro and Aenessa Rylski winning 8-5.
