The Saints scored two touchdowns in the second half, but a strong start powered the Union Garnet Chargers to a 44-12 win over the St. Lawrence University football team on Saturday evening in Schenectady, N.Y.

Will Lederman passed for 101 yards on eight completions, with one touchdown. He also ran for 30 yards and the Saints' second touchdown. Nicholas Huhtala finished with five catches, while James Gescheidle caught three and finished with a touchdown, and Matt Ciesielski caught a game-long 59-yard pass.

First-year Pat Ryan led the defense with seven tackles, one tackle for the loss and a pass breakup. Ryan Surhoff and Savino Morelli both recorded six tackles each, while Luke Robillard finished with a sack and Zach Brown had a fumble recovery.

Union scored off the opening drive, as Michael Dinardo capped a 75-yard drive with a two-yard run for the Garnet Chargers first touchdown. The Saints took over next, but Aldrich Boakye recovered a fumble and ran for 27 yards to double Union's score for a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

The Garnet Chargers recorded three touchdowns in the second quarter, all from Patch Flanagan to build a 34-0 lead at the break.

Lederman put the Saints on the board for the first time at 8:08 of the third, as he finished off a 75-yard drive with a 10-yard run, making it 34-6. Union's Francesco Pileggi increased the score to 37-6 with a 23-yard field goal with 1:45 to play in the third.

The Saints got the first points of the fourth quarter as well when Lederman connected with Gescheidle on a four-yard pass, but the Garnet Chargers finished things off with a 16-yard touchdown run from Cole Brisson, making the final 44-12.

Patch Flanagan threw for 236 yards on 16 completions for three touchdowns and ran for a team-best 86 yards, while Gil Rivera caught seven passes for 92 yards. John Droggitis led the defense with seven tackles, while Daniel O'Leary recorded two sacks.
