Two Saints advanced to the Round of 16Â in singles play, while a doubles pairing also advanced to lead the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team on Day One of the ITA Northeast Regionals on the campus of Skidmore College.
In singles play, the Scarlet and Brown saw
Elisa Iuri,
Molly Jespersen, and
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen advance to the Round of 32 with wins, with Jespersen and Aksdal-Jansen reaching the Round of 16.Â
Jepsersen and Aksdal-Jansen had little stress in their opening matchups and dominated their way to the next round. Jespersen took on Baruch College's Maria Calvo Prado, winning 6-1, 6-0, while Aksdal-Jansen won 6-0, 6-0 against TCNJ's Shruti Mannan.
Jespersen took on Liberty League foe Skyler Semon in the Round of 32, winning 8-3, while her classmate and doubles partner lined up against Scranton's Sarah Crawford, taking the 8-3 win to advance.Â
Both seniors will look to continue their run in the Round of 16 tomorrow.Â
In doubles,
Ariane Karera and
Eleanor McDermed were tasked with William Smith's Haley Levine and Grace Manga in the Round of 32, and the tandem took an 8-3 win to advance to tomorrow's Round of 16, where they will take on the winner of the match between NYU's Sophia Yang/Victoria Wang and RPI's Juliette Ceas/Kaaviya Kannan.
Elsewhere on the day, Karera lost her match-up in singles, falling 7-5, 7-5 (3), while the duo of Jespersen and Aksdal-Jansen lost 8-4 to TCNJ's Gabriella Robinson and Eleni Dakos.
