The St. Lawrence University women's cross country team kicked off its season with a perfect score at the Plattsburgh 5K, sweeping the top four spots and placing 13 runners in the top 25.
"We had a nice showing in our season opener today. The Cardinal Classic is always a nice check point for the team to see where we are after the summer and our early season training as a team," said Saints head coach
Kate Howard. "The team capitalized on the opportunity to compete with ideal weather and favorable course conditions. We're walking away with many personal bests and lots of excitement as we look ahead to the rest of the season."
The factors referenced by Howard lead to many Saints hitting their personal records by around a minute. That included race-winner
Charlotte Blake, who beat her's by 51 seconds. She went sub-19, crossing the line with a time of 18:59.6. That was closely followed by first-yearÂ
Madison Beaudoin, who finished her first collegiate race in second at 19:00.2.
Junior
Quinn Sirgany took third in 19:17.7, blowing her PR out of the water, and sophomore
Avery Blanchard rounded out the sweep in fourth with a time of 19:20.2, seven seconds ahead of her previous best time. Junior
Carly Zack added a fifth-place team finish in 19:25.6.
Cameran Stone and
Paige Poirier crossed the line together in ninth and 10th, both finishing in 20:07. Eleanor Waite (20:15.1),
Berit Meyers (20:16.8), and
Mia Astrauskas (20:17.4) packed tightly in 11th through 13th place.
Ellie Riley also cracked the top 20 with a time of 21:00.4.
Alivia Hopsicker also finished in the top 25, finishing in 22:25.1.
The Saints will return to Hamilton College for the Short Course Invitational in two weeks' time, as they head to Clinton, N.Y.
