Avery Blanchard participated in the NCAA championship Saturday morning, competing among the nation's best at the Roger Milliken Cross Country Course in Spartanburg, S.C.
After the hectic start of the national championship race, Blanchard was in 213
th at the one-kilometer mark. She settled in and burst past 10 runners after that point to vault near the field's top 200. The Ticonderoga, N.Y. native stuck with that group for the duration of the championship and crossed the line in 202
nd.
"We're so proud of Avery and the way she represented St. Lawrence and our program at the NCAA Championships today," said Saints head coach
Kate Howard. "Earning a spot on the starting line at the national championships in each of her first two collegiate cross country seasons is an absolutely phenomenal achievement. Behind the result, today's race was a celebration of how hard Avery fought all season to make this race a reality."
The result is a four-place improvement from the sophomore's last outing at NCAAs, despite the challenging course and humid weather in the Palmetto State. She has qualified for the championship meet for each of her two years in Scarlet and Brown.
