The Skating Saints Add 12 Players Ahead of 2025-26

The St. Lawrence University men's hockey program will welcome twelve new players to the team ahead of the Skating Saints' centennial season, as announced by Charles W. Appleton II Head Men's Hockey Coach Brent Brekke.

"We're thrilled to welcome 12 new faces to the St. Lawrence Hockey family for the 2025-26 season," said Brekke. "This group brings an exciting blend of skill, compete level, and size—but what stands out most is their character. They're team-first individuals who are driven to represent our program the right way on and off the ice. We're confident they'll make a strong impact and embrace what it means to be a Skating Saint."

Defender Jack Babbage, and forward Frankie Carogioiello will join the Saints as transfers, while ten first-year student-athletes will be donning the Scarlet and Brown to begin their collegiate careers.

Among the newcomers are a goaltender, six defenders, and five forwards

Jack Babbage (Graduate Student)
Number: 25 | Defense | Tully, N.Y. | University of New Hampshire (NCAA) | Height: 6'1" Weight: 192 Shot: Left
  • A native of Tully, N.Y., Babbage played his prep school hockey at Avon Old Farms where he also competed in lacrosse and helped lead his team to a Large School Championship.
  • The left-shot defender transfers to St. Lawrence from the University of New Hampshire, where he played in 49 games in three seasons. Babbage began his college career in the ECAC at Quinnipiac University.
  • The blueliner finished his junior career with the USHL's Chicago Steel, winning a Clark Cup Championship. He played in 100 games for the Steel scoring 13 times and tallying 29 assists, while serving as an Assistant Captain during his final season.
  • Prior to his time in Chicago, Babbage played 115 games for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL scoring twice and assisting on 17.
Frankie Carogioiello (Senior)
Number: 20 | Forward | Woodbridge, Ontario | Miami University (Ohio) (NCAA) | Height: 5'10" Weight: 186 Shot: Left
  • A native of Woodbridge, Ontario, Carogioiello played hockey at St. Andrew's College in Ontario, where he served as an assistant captain and earned Honor Roll recognition.
  • The left-shot center went on to play junior hockey where he began his journey with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL in 2020-21. Carogioello played his final season with the Chilliwack Chiefs, playing in 27 games, scoring 11 goals and tallying 13 assists for 24 points.
  • The senior transfer began his career with Miami University (Ohio) where he played in 58 games with three goals and five assists. While at Miami, Carogioiello was named to the NCHC Academic Team for his achievements in the classroom.
Andrew Brown
Number: 4 | Defense | Oakville, Ontario | Cape Breton Eagles (QMJHL) | Height: 5'11" Weight: 185 Shot: Left
  • A native of Oakville, Ontario, Brown captained the Oakville Blades of the OJHL before stints with the Nanaimo Clippers in the BCHL and the Cape Breton Eagles of the QMJHL. The left-shot blueliner made Cape Breton history as the first player in team history to commit to a Division I program.
  • Before joining the Eagles, he played for the Oakville Blades, where he was named a First Team Top Prospect and served as team captain at age 17. He also played for the Nanaimo Clippers, earning a selection to the BCHL Top Prospect Game, serving as assistant captain, and receiving votes for the All-Star Game.
  • For his junior career, Brown tallied 53 points for the Blades, 48 points with the Clippers, and 14 for the Eagles this past season in 33 games.
Sam Frandina
Number: 16 | Defense | Alpharetta, Ga. | Coquitlam Express (BCHL) | Height: 5'9" Weight: 170 Shot: Right
  • A native of Alpharetta, Georgia, Frandina most recently played with the Coquitlam Express in the BCHL, where he served as assistant captain during the 2024–2025 season, and tallied 9 goals and 25 assists in 52 games.
  • The right-shot defender played 45 games the previous season with the Express scoring five goals and tallying 16 assists. Prior to his time with the Express, Frandina played 69 games for the Chippewa Steel of the NAHL scoring eight times and providing 32 assists. He also played 19 games with the Madison Capitols earning seven points.
  • He attended Edmentum for high school while playing for the Nashville Jr. Predators, where he was named team captain during his junior year.
Filip Juříček
Number: 9 | Forward | Ostrava, Czech Republic | Jokerit U20 (U20 SM-sarja) | Height: 5'10" Weight: 169 Shot: Left
  • A native of Ostrava, Czech Republic, Jurícek comes to North America after six seasons in SM-sarja.
  • This past season with Jokerit U20, the left-shot forward played in 33 games scoring five goals and ten assists for 15 points.
  • Prior to his time with Jokerit, the newcomer had a stint for JYP playing 94 games at the U20 level and scored 25 goals to go with his 15 assists.
Jakub Kopecký
Number: 12 | Forward | Nová Dubnica, Slovakia | Bismarck Bobcats (NAHL) | Height: 6'3" Weight: 195 Shot: Left
  • A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kopecký played hockey at South Kent School, where he served as an assistant captain and developed as a strong left-shooting forward.
  • After his time with the Slovakia U18 squad, he began his junior career with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL Where he played in 34 games in 2022-23 scoring once and assisting on three goals. Kopecky then moved to Bismarck to play for the Bobcats in the NAHL where he played in 93 games in two seasons putting up 20 goals and 18 assists.
  • His passion for the game runs in the family as his father, Tomáš played in the NHL from 2005-2015 winning the Stanley Cup with the Red Wings in 2008 and the Blackhawks in 2010.
Sam LeDrew
Number: 8 | Defense | Stillwater, Nova Scotia | West Kelowna Warriors (BCHL) | Height: 6'1" Weight: 180 Shot: Right
  • A native of Stillwater Lake, Nova Scotia, LeDrew played hockey at Kimball Union Academy before stints with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, and the West Kelowna Warriors, excelling as a forward.
  • This past season at West Kelowna in the BCHL, LeDrew played in 50 regular season games tallying 25 goals and 22 assists for 47 points and had three points in five playoff games.
  • He served as team captain and helped lead his team to the New England Championship while at Kimball Union. The right-shot forward earned All-League and All-New England honors for his performance on the ice.
Teddy Mallgrave
Number: 2 | Defense | Spring Lake, N.J. | Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL) | Height: 6'3" Weight: 200 Shot: Left
  • A native of Summit, New Jersey, Mallgrave played his prep school hockey at Kent School, where he served as team captain during his final season there and was a key contributor on defense playing in 82 games.
  • Standing at 6'3", the left-shot brings a strong physical presence to the blue line. Mallgrave played just one season in juniors, skating with the Waterloo Black Hawks this past season.
  • The blueliner played 60 games with the Black Hawks scoring nine times and tallying three assists.
Cooper Pierson
Number: 13 | Forward | Zionsville, Ind. | Brooks Bandits (BCHL) | Height: 5'9" Weight: 175 Shot: Right
  • A native of Zionsville, Indiana, Pierson played hockey at Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Minnesota, where he was part of the U18 Tier 1 National Championship team in 2023.
  • The right-shot forward parlayed his success into a junior career where he played for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL and most recently the Brooks Bandits of the BCHL.
  • Last season, Pierson had four goals and four assists in 25 games for the Lumberjacks before playing his final 28 games of the season with the Bandits, tallying 23 points on eight goals and 125 assists.
Luke Santilli
Number: 22 | Defense | Andover, Mass | Youngstown Phantoms (USHL) | Height: 6'3" Weight: 213 Shot: Right
  • A native of Andover, Massachusetts, Santilli played junior hockey with the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL this past season, and with the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BCHL where he earned Most Improved Player honors in 2023 and was named Top Defensive Defenseman in 2024.
  • A right-shot defenseman, Santilli played 60 games for the Phantoms on the blueline scoring once and assisting on five others. He played 101 games in Cowichan Valley in two seasons tallying 20 points on four goals and 16 assists.
  • His passion for hockey runs in the family as his father played NCAA Division III hockey at Curry College, where he was a two-year captain before taking his talents to the scouting world where he currently serves as the Director of Player Personnel for the New Jersey Devils after a 10-year stint with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he served as an Amateur and Pro Scout.
Rasmus Svartström
Number: 11 | Forward | Helsinki, Finland | Cranbrook Bucks (BCHL) | Height: 6'5" Weight: 201 Shot: Left
  • A native of Helsinki, Finland, Svartström played junior hockey with the Cranbrook Bucks of the BCHL this past season, where he emerged as one of the league's top offensive threats.
  • He set the franchise's single-season goals record with 46, led the league in goals, and was named a finalist for league MVP honors. A towering 6'5" left-shot forward, Svartström also provided 23 assists in 54 games for 69 points in his first season in North America.
  • The forward played internationally with the Finland U19 and U20 teams, and prior to that played for the KooKoo U20 and U18 teams in SM-sarja.
Colin Winn
Number: 31 | Goaltender | Westford, Mass. | Alberni Valley Bulldogs (BCHL) | Height: 6'1" Weight: 195 Catches: Left
  • A native of Westford, Massachusetts, Winn played junior hockey this past season with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the BCHL, developing his skills as a left-catching goaltender.
  • The netminder began his junior career in 2021 with the Boston Jr. Bruins of the NCDC playing in 44 games with a 2.58 GAA and a .919 save percentage. Winn then played two years in the USHL for the Youngstown Phantoms starting 48 games and providing a 3.40 GAA and a .880 save percentage and won a Clark Cup with the team.
  • In his lone season in Alberni Valley this past year, the goaltender started 39 games, going 19-17-3 with a 3.43 GAA and a .902 save percentage.
