Nick Lyndaker electrified the home crowd at Merrick-Pinkard Track and Field Complex Friday night with another record-breaking event win, this time in the 1500-meter run.
His time of 3:42.75 was a personal-best by nine seconds, and set a program record in the event by four seconds. It beat the mark set by Dave Elster in 1984.
The run was also a Liberty League association record, St. Lawrence facility record, placed him No. 2 in the NCAA Division III performance list, and No. 9 all-time in the 1500-meter. The facility record at the Merrick-Pinkard Track and Field Complex was previously held by former American Olympian and current social media influencer Nick Symmonds, set in 2003.
"Nick found some more magic under the lights and ran a perfectly executed race," said Saints coach
John Newman. "We've been targeting this day and event since the end of the indoor season and it couldn't have come together more spectacularly than it did last night. Special thanks to first year,
Riley Cushman for locking in a fast pace from the gun and to the men from Queen's University, especially Jude Wheeler-Dee who gave Nick a battle right to the final meters and kept the middle of the race on target. It was such a special moment to have a historic race come together like that on our home track and in the presence of Nick's teammates, family and friends."
Multiple first place finishes also highlighted the St. Lawrence University men's track and field team's day competing in the SLU Twilight at home Friday evening in Canton, N.Y.
In the field events,
Erik Schneider landed third in the hammer throw by throwing 34.59 meters. Brenan O'Horo finished second in the pole vault with 3.85 meters.
Elsewhere,
Caleb Young won the 400-meter run with his time of 49.96.
Trystan Biller had a victory in the 110-meter hurdles as he finished with a time of 16.03. In the 800-meter run,
Cyrus Goetze claimed first with his time of 1:59.58
In the 4x100-meter relay, the team of
Kristofer Mellor,
Shemir Bridges,
Cameron Dillard, and
Jack Beauchesne grabbed a second-place finish of 43.59, which was three tenths of a second behind the first place Plattsburgh.
Along with Young in the 400-meter run,
Leif Harvey claimed third with his time of 51.21.
Will Chalfant notched a third-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:33.68, as his teammate
Kyle Gaffney was five seconds behind him in fourth. Both times were good enough to hit the Liberty League qualifier.
The Saints now prepare for the Liberty League championship, starting on Friday, May 2, in Rochester N.Y.
