Season Preview: Saints Ready for Winter Season as Holiday Relays Loom

The St. Lawrence University women's track and field team begins the 2025–26 campaign on Friday when the Saints host the Holiday Relays at Newell Fieldhouse. The meet marks the first competition of the indoor season and returns the Saints to the site of one of their two team victories from last year.

"We're looking forward to kicking off the 2025-2026 track and field campaign here at home on Friday with the Holiday Relays," said Saints head coach Kate Howard. "We've got a great group of returning team members being joined by a terrific first-year class."

"Our experienced team members will certainly lead the way for us this year," Howard continued, "but we are also expecting our newcomers to jump in and make an immediate impact on the track and in the field. Our home meet schedule combined with our road contests will set us up to see a high level of competition throughout the season so we're in our best form for the championship season."

Among the strong competitors leading the way, the Saints bring back a number of athletes who contributed to the 2024-25 season. The team earned first-place finishes at the Saints Holiday Relays and the SLU Open and posted a wide range of personal bests across events.

Avery Blanchard returns after a breakout year that included a Liberty League championship in the 5000-meter run, multiple event wins and a personal record in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:15.18 at the Utica Winter Opener, a performance that qualified her for the AARTFC Indoor Championships. She was one of several Saints to qualify for the regional meet last season.

Quinn Sirgany qualified for the AARTFC Championships in the mile, and the distance medley relay group of Sirgany, Adriana Cecchetelli, Blanchard, and Cameran Stone earned a qualifying mark with a time of 13:05.70 at the St. Lawrence Invitational.

Other returning contributors include Carly Zack, who opened last season with a 1000-meter win in 3:11.63, and Amelia Berthold, who ran a personal best of 9.87 in the 60-meter hurdles on two occasions. Berthold also set a personal best in the high jump by clearing 1.50 meters.

Cecchetelli, Paige Poirier, and Blanchard each recorded personal bests in the 3000-meter run last season. Sirgany added a personal best in the mile at the Fastrack National Invitational, and Lyla Baldwin set a personal mark in the long jump with a distance of 4.49 meters.

The Holiday Relays begin Friday afternoon at Newell Fieldhouse.
