Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Saints Fall to No. 12 Brown in ECAC Action

Brooke Mulvihill scored the lone goal to bring the game back within one, but two goals in the second period, powered 12th-ranked Brown to a 2-1 win over the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team on Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena.

Back-and-forth play paced the first period, but both St. Lawrence's Kassidy Lawrence and Brown's Anya Zupkofska were up to the task.

After the first 20 minutes, SLU led 12-7 in shots on goal.

In a flurry of goals within two minutes and 30 seconds in the second, Brown struck first, as Jade Iginla originally looked for the pass, but the puck bounced back off the skate of a Saints' defender, and she was able to slip one past Lawrence for the 1-0 lead.

The Bears doubled up, as Monique Lyons broke up a play in the neutral zone, took on two defenders and went bar down for the two-goal lead.

Brooke Mulvihill scored her fourth of the season to put the Saints on the board. Alexa Davis passed to a streaking Kennedy Wilson on the right side; Wilson's shot bounced off a defender and to a wide-open Mulvihill on the doorstep to bring the game back within one.

The Saints tried to find the equalizer with 30 seconds to play in the second, but the rebound chance went just over the crossbar.

Three goals in the second period stood for the final, as neither team scored in the third. St. Lawrence held a hefty lead in shots 21-12 in the third, but 16 total blocks from the Bears, half of those in the third period, kept the Saints off the board.

"I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but it was another good effort by our group," said head coach Chris Wells. "Brown was able to capitalize on two nice chances to get the win. We played as good of a game as we have played all year in a lot of areas and now feel like we have put together about five consistent games in a row now."

"We will get our bounces with the way we are playing and with our effort. It will be a nice non-conference week down at BC to continue to improve."

Lawrence stopped 22 shots for the Saints, while Zupkofska made 32 for the Bears.

St. Lawrence fell to 6-10-1 overall and moved to 4-4-0 in conference play, as Brown improved to 8-3-1 and 4-3-1.

The Saints will travel to Boston, Mass. on Thanksgiving, as they take on Boston College on November 28-29. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
