The Saints provided a pair of 9-0 sweeps on the day as the No. 22 St. Lawrence University women's squash team defeated No. 31 Vassar and No. 28 Haverford on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
St. Lawrence improved to 3-0 on the weekend and 4-0 overall on the season.
Match 1: No. 22 St. Lawrence 9, No. 31 Vassar 0
St. Lawrence lost just one game in their first match of the day against the Brewers. At one,
Eboni Atherley took on Charlotte Tobin, winning 11-4, 11-5, 11-7, while
Madeleine Martin also secured a 3-0 win at number two by the score of 11-2, 11-4, 13-11 against Hope Fireison.
At three,
Khissaiyia Spencer took on Adriana Ordaya, and after going up 2-0, Ordaya forced a fourth game, which Spencer took 12-10. Then at four,
Laura Franz made quick work of her match, securing an 11-2, 11-2, 11-3 victory.
Katherine Callaway and
Emma Kahle each found similar success at five and six as Callaway took an 11-3, 11-2, 11-1 win, while Kahle took an 11-1, 11-2, 11-2 victory.
Azaa Regmi and
Kelis Givens accounted for the two other matches at seven and eight, while
Kamya C. Franklin won by default at nine. Regmi defeated Eaint Mat 11-5, 11-1, 11-5, while Givens took on Elta Bajrami, winning 11-7, 11-3, 11-3.
Match 2: No. 22 St. Lawrence 9, No. 28 Haverford 0
Angel Otshabeng took part in the second match of the day, occupying her normal number one spot against Joelle Phuah. The sophomore won her match 11-4, 11-4, 11-1 to take the 3-0 win.
Atherley, Spencer, Franz, Callaway, Franklin, and Kahle all provided 3-0 wins against Haverford for their second wins of the day.
Mariam Dodd played in the fourth spot for the Saints, taking on Ofri Geva and winning 11-2, 11-6, 11-1. Martin lost her first game of her match against Julia Carrasco but won the next three games 11-8, 11-7, 11-4 for the win.
St. Lawrence will be back on court on Saturday, December 6, when the team travels to Washington, D.C. to take on Georgetown University.
