Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Beneteau Scores Late; Skating Saints Fall to No. 19/20 Dartmouth

Sophomore forward Nicholas Beneteau scored in the third period for the Saints. Still, three goals in the second period from the visitors helped send the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team to a 6-1 loss to No. 19 /20 Dartmouth on Friday night in Appleton Arena.

St. Lawrence fell to 2-8-1 on the season and 1-2-0 in the ECAC, while the Big Green improved to 5-0-0 and 3-0-0 in league action.

Before the contest, the Skating Saints kicked off this historic weekend by celebrating the 100th anniversary of the men's hockey program with a ceremonial puck drop by Stanley Cup-winning coach Mike Keenan '72, along with numerous events around campus.

Dartmouth came out strong to begin the game, but the Saints got a pair of quality chances from first-years Sam Frandina and Cooper Pierson that Roan Clarke stopped. Tyler Cristall also added an effort following the media timeout, but the Saints stayed at bay.

A power play in the final five minutes of the first period led to a Dartmouth lead. The Big Green saw Nikita Nikora find CJ Foley at the blue line, where he fired a shot that was deflected in by Hank Cleaves.

Dartmouth made it a 2-0 game 5:57 into the second period when Nathan Morin capitalized on a turnover to net an unassisted goal.

Following a penalty kill from the Saints, they went on a power play of their own around the midway point of the contest, but a pair of bad bounces led to two Big Green goals and a 4-0 lead for the visitors.
St. Lawrence had three solid chances late in the second by Andrew Brown, Jack Babbage, and Isack Bandu, but went into the break down four.

Dartmouth scored two more goals in the first 12:20 of the first period to make it 6-0.

The Saints found the net in the final three minutes of the game thanks to a turnover. A Dartmouth defender threw a haphazard pass up the left side boards and had it stolen by Isaac Tremblay. Tremblay carried the puck into the zone, where he found Beneteau, who was on the doorstep to jam it past Clarke.

That was as close as they would get, as both of Jacob Bernadet's chances later were steered away.

Mason Kucenski stopped 21 shots in goal, while Clarke made 14 in the road net.

The Skating Saints will be back on the ice tomorrow at 7 p.m. to take on Harvard. The program will be honoring the two newest inductees to the Legends of Appleton during the contest in Tom O'Connor '75, P'12, and the late Ray Shero '84.

Fans in Canton are encouraged to join us in a fun-filled day of activities tomorrow, including the Ray Shero '84 Memorial Alumni Game at Appleton Arena at 1 p.m., and the Legends Weekend Gameday Concert & Tailgate Party at 3 p.m. outside of Appleton. The celebration will feature food, fun, and music from Dalton & the Sheriffs and DJ Defsam '27.
