Pat Ryan recorded a team-best 10 tackles, but the St. Lawrence University football team was shutout 48-0 by the RPI Engineers on Saturday afternoon at Leckonby Stadium.
Ryan also finished with a tackle for the loss, while
Ryan Surhoff and
Brennan Twombly picked up eight tackles apiece. Twombly also recorded a block on an extra-point attempt for the Engineers. Will
Lederman passed for 57 yards on eight completions and ran 39 yards for the Saints offense, while
Cole Phelan caught four passes for 32 yards.
Oliver Cheer also saw action at quarterback, passing 7-for-12 for 48 yards.
RPI made quick work in the first quarter, building a 14-0 lead over the Saints, as Anthony DeMatteo connected with Josh Young for a 22-yard touchdown pass at 9:59 and Kayden White ran in a seven-yard touchdown at 4:44.
Adrian Gurung made it 20-0 with a five-yard run just five minutes into the second quarter, but the extra point however was no good, as it was blocked by Twombley.
With 20 seconds to play in the second, DeMatteo capped a 79-yard drive with a 29-yard pass to Gage Swanger to give RPI a 27-0 lead at the break.
The Engineers put up 21 points in the third quarter for the eventual 48-0 final, as neither team scored in the final frame.
DeMatteo logged 270 passing yards, going 20-for-23 for RPI, while Joshua Ahrens ran for a team-best 45 yards and Robbie Peterson caught five passes for 55 yards. Three members of the Engineers defense recorded six tackles each.
RPI improved to 7-1 on the season and remain undefeated in Liberty League play at 5-0. St. Lawrence fell to 2-6 and 1-4.
The Saints will play their last road game of the season as they travel to Buffalo State on November 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
