Angelica Aksdal-Jansen led the Saints with four wins on the day and reached her 100
th career win to lead the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team on day one of the Hamilton Invitational in Clinton, N.Y.
The senior teamed up with
Molly Jespersen in doubles and took a pair of wins on the day. In the first round, the tandem defeated Bates' Saul and Bakre 6-1, and beat Hamilton's Qian and Walpole 6-3 for the other win.
In singles, Aksdal-Jansen cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bates' Saul, and won a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 battle against Hamilton's Qian.
Along with her doubles wins, Jespersen earned a singles win in round one, defeating Bates' Bakre 6-3, 6-3, and fell in the second round.
Ariane Karera and
Elisa Iuri took the other doubles win for the Saints, 6-2 over Bates' Vincent and LaFountain.
Iuri also had a great day in singles play, going 2-0. The sophomore won 6-4, 6-0 against Bates' Swire in round one and beat Hamilton's Walpole 6-0, 6-0 in the second round.
Karera, and
Kate Butler accounted for the other two singles wins for the Scarlet and Brown, both of which came against Bates.
The Saints will be back on court tomorrow to close out the Hamilton Invitational and their Fall schedule.
