Abby Hustler,
Kennedy Wilson and
Sarah Marchand scored but Brown scored three unanswered goals, including the overtime game winner, to power the Bears to a 4-3 win over the eighth-ranked St. Lawrence University women's hockey team on Friday night at Appleton Arena.
Abby Hustler put the Saints on the board with 1:42 to play in the first period. Alexia Côté tipped the puck to
Anna Segedi, who sent a cross-ice pass to Hustler. Hustler went top shelf with a snipe past Bears goaltender Rory Edwards for the 1-0 lead.
After the first 20 minutes of play, the Saints held a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.
The Saints increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal from
Kennedy Wilson, who sent a quick shot five hole for the two-goal advantage.
Hillary Sterling and
Kennedy Emerson added helpers on the play.
Just about seven minutes later, Brown brought the game back within one with a power play goal from Monique Lyons.
SLU got redemption with an advantage of their own, as
Sarah Marchand sent a rocket from the right circle, scoring on the power play to make it 3-1.
Aly McLeod and
Melissa Jefferies assisted on the action.
Lyons added her second of the game off a long shot near the left boards, bringing the game back within one again at 3-2. Cameron Sikich scored the tying goal for the Bears with 2:04 left in the third to eventually force overtime.
The Saints got two big chances in overtime off the stick of Segedi, but St. Lawrence was called for a boarding penalty, changing overtime to 4-on-3. As the Saints attempted to clear, a bad bounce hit the stick of Lyons, who competed her hat trick for the overtime win.

"We have been on the right side of a few of these games like this evening's," said head coach Chris Wells. "Tonight, Brown deserved the win. We were able to execute on our three goals, but struggled a bit to get some zone time and puck possession."Â
"Brown kept coming and got a spark with the goal to make it 3-2. Both teams exchanged chances in the exciting OT until Brown got the winner. Back up on the horse tomorrow vs. Yale."
Brown finished with a 22-19 advantage in shots on goal and went 2-for-2 on the power play, while the Saints finished 1-for-2.
The Saints moved to 14-6-5 on the season and 8-2-3 in ECAC play, while Brown improved to 10-9-1 and 5-7-1.
St. Lawrence will take on Yale at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 18.
