Molly Jespersen and
Ariane Karera both picked up singles wins to lead the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team on day one of the St. Lawrence University Invitational at the Sammis Tennis Courts.
In singles play, Jespersen took on Binghamton's number one Natalia Aruj and won a tight matchup. After falling 6-7 (4) in the first game, Jespersen took the next 6-2 to set up a tiebreak. The St. Lawrence junior won the tiebreak 13-11 to take the match.
Ariane Karera took on Caterina Casadei in the number two spot and took the opening game 6-1. The second game was much closer, but Karera eventually won the game 7-5 to take the match win.
Yvette Karera was on the wrong end of a tiebreak in the number three spot taking on Loren Cuomo. After falling 3-6 in game one, Karera bounced back with a 6-3 win of her own to force the tiebreak. Cuomo however would take the win 10-2.Â
The Saints will be back on the court tomorrow for day two of the St. Lawrence University Invitational when they play SUNY Cortland.
