The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team saw three players reach the Semifinals of their draws, along with a doubles pairing as the team took part in day one of the Mary Hosking Invitational on the campus of William Smith College.
In the A draw,
Molly Jespersen and
Ariane Karera saw themselves advance to the Quarterfinals with 8-4 wins. Karera, after defeating Natalie Haythorn in the first round, fell to RIT's Kira Kronenberg 8-3 in the quarters. Jespersen was tasked with the University of Rochester's Kai Wen Katie Yang and advanced to tomorrow's Semifinals with an 8-1 win. The junior will face Maya McDaniel.
In the B draw,
Yvette Karera was the lone Saint to reach the quarters with an 8-1 win over Geneseo's Rachel Molloy. In the Quarterfinals, Karera won a close 8-7 (8-6) match to advance to tomorrow's semis against RPI's Victoria Sarabosing.
Ellie Fritz, who was playing in the C draw, advanced through the opening round with an 8-3 win over Geneseo's Katie Kujawa. Then in the Quarterfinals, the sophomore went toe-to-toe with Ithaca's Aenessa Rylski winning 8-7 (7-3). Fritz will take on Kaaviya Kannan tomorrow as she looks to continue her run.
In A doubles, Jespersen and first-year
Eleanor McDermed won their first-round matchup 8-5 against RIT's Maya Clinard and Maya McDaniel. Then in the quarters, the tandem took on Rochester's Lilly Caldwell and Jasmin Toor claiming an 8-3 win. The two will play in the Semifinals tomorrow against RPI's Lorna Flores Gonzalez, and Nicole Ridenour.
On the B side of doubles, Fritz claimed another win, this time alongside
Sarah Oldland. The duo took an 8-6 first-round win over William Smith's Grace Magna and Mae Kellersman. The pair would fall 8-1 in the Quarterfinals however to end their run.
