Caroline Hamilton recorded a hat trick and
Courtney Lynn stopped a season-high 12 saves to lead the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team, but the Saints fell to Skidmore 10-9 in Liberty League action on Friday afternoon in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Second to the goals from Hamilton,
Keira Dodd tallied two goals, while
Liz Evans,
Bella Hillman,
Phoebe Spaeth and
Neve Ley scored once. Both Ley and
Aria Lee each won two draws, while
Annie Alfieri picked up three ground balls and caused one turnover. Bridgette Gable finished with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
An evenly paced game to start, both teams tallied three goals each in the first quarter for the 3-3 tie after the first 15 minutes. Scoring for the Saints was Spaeth, Ley and Hamilton.
Skidmore's Allison Brewer tallied back-to-back goals to start the second quarter, giving the Thoroughbreds a 5-3 lead. Hamilton scored off the feed from Arakelian with 47 seconds left in the first half to bring the game within one before the break.
Evans knotted the game up 5-5 to start the third quarter, but the Thoroughbred's responded with two of their own to take a two-goal advantage heading into the final quarter.
Skidmore opened the scoring in the fourth, but Hamilton responded by tallying her third of the game for a hat trick. St. Lawrence outscored Skidmore 4-3 in the final frame, the last coming at 2:34 off the stick of Dodd.
Jillian Lockwood led the Thoroughbreds with three goals, while Maddy Marr and Lily Schwartzman each recorded two.
Lynn made a season-high 12 saves and picked up two ground balls for the Saints, while Liv Kazanjian made five for Skidmore.
The Thoroughbreds outshot the Saints 28-22, including 22-14 in shots on goal. St. Lawrence picked up 19 ground balls to Skidmore's 17. The Saints also capitalized on 2-of-3 free position shots, while Skidmore went 3-for-6.
SLU fell to 3-10 overall and 2-5 in Liberty League play, while Skidmore improved to 7-7 and 4-3, respectively.
St. Lawrence will continue its road stand and travel to Union, tomorrow April 20 for a 3 p.m. game.
