Women’s Tennis Bounces Back With Dominant Win in Day 2 Split

The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team split two matches Tuesday as the team continued their spring break trip in Florida.

After the day, St. Lawrence's record stands at 5-3.

In the morning matchup against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, St. Lawrence received equal contribution from the doubles and singles but still fell just a bit short in a 4-5 decision.

In the doubles, the pairing of Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and Molly Jespersen, in the number 1 spot, began the day with an 8-5 victory over Anna Lee and Samantha Fuchs while the duo of Ariane Karera and Yvette Karera continued their hot streak in Florida, winning their second match in a row with an 8-4 win over Morgan Dekan and Sydney Presler.

In the singles matches, Jespersen gained the edge over Fuchs for the second time on the day with a victory in three sets at the number one spot. After splitting the first two sets, 6-4 and 2-6, Jespersen used a 10-7 final set to take the match.

Elena Styliades earned the other win in the singles pairings for the Saints with convincing 6-3 and 6-2 set wins over Morgan Dekan at the number three spot to keep the push for the win alive.

The BluGolds would sweep the 4-6 spots, however, to gain the win in the morning head-to-head.

In the evening match, the Scarlet and Brown used balanced team output as the team posted a 7-0 victory over Warner (Fla.).

In the doubles, Jespersen and Alexandra Fuller controlled the number one spot with a convincing 6-2 match win over Riley Cook and Lauren Schiraldi. The Saints received another win through a win by walkover in the number three spot to claim the doubles point.

A strong singles showing saw St. Lawrence sweep the field with wins in spots 1-5 and a win by walkover in spot 6.

In the number one spot, Ariane Karera earned her second win of the matchup with a win in three sets, 4-6, 6-4 and 10-3, over Camila Matos. The number two spot was controlled by Meredith Macey who posted scores of 6-3 and 6-1 enroute to a victory. Ellie Fritz grinded out the second three-set victory for the Saints, in the number three spot, posting 6-4 and 10-7 scores after falling behind 4-6 in the first set.

Sarah Oldland continued the team's hot evening with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the number four spot while Fuller added herself to the win column with a 6-2 and 6-3 win over Keren Alves in the number 5 spot.

St. Lawrence returns to action Wednesday, March 20th, as they enter another double-header match day. The Saints will face Hendrix College at 11:30 a.m. before meeting Franklin Pierce University in the nightcap, at 5:30 p.m.
