Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Karera's Lead as Women's Tennis Rebounds for Win in Nightcap

The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team managed to recover from the early match vs Hendrix College as they prevailed in the evening outing as the team neared the end of its matches in The Sunshine State.

At the conclusion of the day the Saints find themselves with a 6-4 record.

An even 3-3 split in the singles matches was not enough as Hendrix controlled the doubles play en route as St. Lawrence dropped its first match of the day, 6-3, Wednesday afternoon.

After not being able to gain any traction in the doubles matchups, Ariane Karera got the Saints in the win column with two 6-4 set wins over Eleanor Burks in the number one spot. Yvette Karera continued the push in the number two spot with two strong 6-1 sets en route to a victory over Avery Stephens.

Ellie Fritz gained the lone other Saints win in the number five spot with a 7-5 and 6-3 match win over Ayden Huckelbury to avenge a loss earlier in doubles play.

The Saints used a strong doubles showing as the team stretched past Franklin Pierce University, 6-3, in the final match of the day.

In the number one spot, Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and Molly Jespersen collaborated for a 6-4 match win while the Karera combination of Yvette and Ariane stormed to a 6-1 win in the number two spot. Elena Styliades and Abigail Sicuranza earned a win by walkover at number three.

In the singles division, Yvette Karera continued her hot day with two 6-0 sets to take the number 4 match against Dylan Smith. Maya Stepic and Styliades were both credited with wins by walkover, in the number 5 and 6 spots, respectively, to close out the victory for the Saints.

St. Lawrence returns to action Thursday as the team wraps up its spring break trip to the south against Eastern Florida State College at 11 a.m. before returning to Canton for Liberty League play.
